In Croatia, one of Hitler’s satellite states, the Ustaša militia began deporting Roma to the Jasenovac camp in May 1942, a camp infamous for the cruelty of its guards. The Jasenovac Memorial was able to identify more than 16,000 murdered Roma, with children accounting for one third of the victims.
